Paul David Hewson OBE OL (Dublin, 10 from May 1960), known by his stage name Bono (English pronunciation: /ˈbɜnoʊ/ BON - oh) is a singer, philanthropist, composer and Irish businessman. He is the lead vocalist of the rock band U2.
Bono was born in Dublin, Ireland, where he met his wife Alison Stewart, and the members of U2. [1] [2] Bono wrote almost all of the band's lyrics, many inspired by social, religious, and political themes. [3] [4] During his early years in the band, Bono's lyrics contributed to the spiritual and rebellious tone of the musical group. Outside of the band, he collaborated and recorded with various artists, [5] [6] [7] is part of the board of directors of ; Elevation Partners, and owns a hotel, called The Clarence Hotel, in Dublin, along with Edge. [8] Bono is also widely known for his activism regarding Africa, for which he co-founded DATA, EDUN, the ONE Campaign & nbsp; and Product Red.
